Dear RSU 1 Community,
Upon review of all recent COVID-19 cases with our Maine CDC outbreak investigator, our school physician, Dr. Amina Hanna, and our School Nurse, Katrina Barter, we are confident at this point that all cases were a result of community spread and that no in-school transmission or transmission during athletic programming has taken place. Therefore, Morse and Bath Tech will return to in-person learning this Thursday and Friday, April 15 and 16, with the usual hybrid instruction. Spring sports will return to a practice-only schedule through April break.
We would also like to inform you that during our decision to do remote learning Monday - Wednesday of this week, we had one additional individual associated with Morse High School/ Bath Tech test positive for COVID-19. Following our safety procedures, we have notified all close contacts of the individual and they will quarantine for 10 days.
All of the cases causing our current outbreak status are the result of community spread. It is more important than ever to follow all safety protocols whether in school or not, especially mask wearing, social distancing, and hand washing. All new cases impact the chances for in-person classes, a full spring sports season, and celebrating graduation events in-person. MHS/BT students will be asked by this year’s senior class president to consider making a “pledge to stop the spread.” This is a proactive effort the MHS/ BT student body is taking on to collaboratively promise to uphold safety protocols both on and off campus so all students and families stay safe and are able to enjoy the exciting events that a spring at the high school level offers.
As a reminder, if you plan to travel over April vacation, please follow the updated RSU 1 Travel Guidelines. And, please continue to keep our school nurses informed of COVID-19-related illnesses.
